Berlin Fire Company, Inc. provides volunteer emergency fire and rescue services to the Town of Berlin and surrounding Worcester County area from Assateague Island, South Point, and Snug Harbor areas to the east, Ironshire to the South, Carey Road to the north and east to the Wicomico County line to the west include the communities of Libertytown, St. Martins and Whaleyville. Approximately 55 volunteers provide their services free of charge and dedicate many hours to emergency response and training, therefore saving the taxpayers thousands of dollars. The fire company operates three stations—-Headquarters on North Main Street, Station 2 on Stephen Decatur Highway (RT 611) across from Frontier Town Campground, and Station 3 on Ocean Gateway (RT 50) just east of the Friendship / Seahawk Rd intersection. We have 4 engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 tanker, 1 rescue truck, 1 command unit, 1 brush truck, and 4 utility vehicles. One utility is equipped in the summer months with water rescue equipment, and another utility is a specialized high water / storm unit. Berlin Fire Company Emergency Medical Services, Inc. provides emergency medical services to the same areas. This is accomplished with 16 full time personnel and many part-time personnel and volunteer EMS providers and drivers. The career staff supplement the fire and rescue operations as needed. However, an EMS unit responds with all fire and rescue calls to be ready to provide EMS services on the fire and rescue operations scenes to the public and should a firefighter become ill or injured. There are three fully equipped advanced life support ambulances. These cost approximately $415,000 each. All of the career personnel and ambulances are located at the fire company headquarters at 214 North Main Street.
