Local Television Station Broadcasting from Salisbury, MD.
WMDT (47ABC) went on the air in April 1980 and has been the ABC and CW affiliate (formerly The WB) since then. In October 2013, the station was purchased by Marquee Broadcasting, Inc. Since that time Marquee has invested in both the station and the community. Additional network programming has been added to WMDT, including Me-TV Delmarva and the ION network.
Since Marquee acquired the station, several jobs have been added and equipment upgraded. The news is now broadcast in high definition. Sports was added back to the evening newscasts, and a new weekly sports program was created, Delmarva Sports Insider, which is devoted primarily to hyper-local sports reporting for the Delmarva Peninsula. WMDT was the first station in the area to begin using virtual news sets, a broad network of weather cameras in its newscasts and on its website, and a cellular bonded live news truck. With the advent of a second TV station (WGDV-Salisbury) we were able to provide the first Spanish language station in the market, and more classic television networks than any other local media outlet, which provides more choices for our viewers. Our news programming regularly receives awards from the Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association and has also received the highly coveted Service to Children Television award from the National Association of Broadcasters.
Yet, the station may be best known for its involvement with the local communities on Delmarva. We sponsor a host of charitable events and receive requests for our on-air personalities to Emcee some of the most popular local events. The station is located in the heart of Downtown Salisbury and is a huge supporter of the revitalization of the downtown district.
Local engagement is the driver behind each Marquee station; so much so that the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office awarded Marquee the trademark “Because Local Matters.” That is why we do what we do in the communities we serve. It is easy to forget what matters when the national stage consumes so much attention. We are here to remind everyone that local news, local weather and local issues matter, now more than ever.
